Welcome!
The goal of Term 1 is to upgrade the speaking, reading, and
writing skills of the students to meet and exceed Level 4 of the New Zealand
Curriculum. We will concentrate on
surface features of English, such as the multiple usages of verb tenses,
adjectives, and adverbs. In addition, we
will concentrate on writing for speed, fluency and accuracy; focusing on the
writing process from brainstorming to editing.
Every day there will be spelling and grammar activities to increase
students’ lexicon and every night there will be homework so that students can
practise the day’s lessons to help fossilize the new ideas. We will focus on reading
and writing poetry and recount. Students
will learn the structure of these texts, as well as techniques that will help
improve individualized facets of their writing within each genre. I hope to
make the classes as informative and enjoyable for the students, but it will
take much student effort in class and at home to obtain optimal benefits.
